How will you use your customised link?

Here are a few of PCM's uses

  1. included in a PDF or printed article to observe activity triggered by finding it in that one location.
  2. used to generate a QR code to monitor through Bit.ly stats engagement.
  3. created to provide an easy word of mouth link to verbally relayed when asked for a link that would otherwise be very long hard to recall, remembers and relay.
  4. provided an easy-share link for emailing and texting to PCM's Terms and Conditions https://bit.ly/pcm_TandCs
  5. in reports in combination with inserted hyperlinks when printing and photocopying are likely
  6. in graphics when a jpg image may become disassociated from its source text link, shared independently on social media or isolated in screen grabs.
  7. for a web asset such as a press release or event page where I want to measure the traffic from my activity promoting the linked material that I wouldn't have analytics.

Bit.ly is one of the many URL shortening link services available.

Translating PDF to English - #AudDev Reporting Season

Swedish to English

Q. What do you can someone who speaks more than one language? A. Bi-lingual.

Q. What do you can someone who speaks many languages? A. a Polyglot.

Q. What do you can someone who speaks only one language? A. English!

I am passionate about audience engagement and developing structures to understand the needs and behaviours of what makes up audiences. These structures often emerge from projects undertaken through collaboration with academics and stakeholder culture practitioners working artistically, educationally, communally, managerially or administratively in the Arts, Culture and Entertainment industries and their various sectors.

In the last 12 months, I have seen the rise of the term Participation enter the crucible of audience conundrum.

Make your Instagram Photos show up in your Twitter Timeline.

PICS not Links
Do you remember a time when you posted to Instagram, cross-posted to Twitter and your photo displayed in all its glory?

That stopped quite a while back following a dispute over API shenanigans which I have to confess I know nothing about.

However, I do know how to get Instagram pictures to display in Twitter just like the good old days.

Not sure what I mean?

This is an Instagram post shared to Twitter from the Instagram share to Twitter setting

This is an Instagram post shared using the technique outlined in this HowTo worksheet.

Here is the How To... post photos from Instagram into Twitter and have the picture display instead of a link.

It uses a service called IFTTT (If This Then That) it has a multitude of uses supporting more services than you ever knew existed!

You are going to create an IFTTT account, I sign in with my Google ID. You will locate a 'recipe' (the name given to instruction constructed in IFTTT) and activate it to perform the action each time you post a photo to your Instagram feed.

IF I post THIS on Instagram  THEN post THAT to Twitter

I hope that sounds logical. IFTTT is all about logic statements which trigger actions.

In a nutshell...

The Steps.

  • Create an IFTTT account.
  • Locate a predefined 'recipe' (the name given to instructions constructed in IFTTT)
  • Activate the Instagram instruction to ‘run’ the action each time you post a photo.

Need more instruction? Here the step by step tutorial sheet.

Playlist Power Moves

Since I first discovered folksonomic tagging in Flickr making dynamic updating photo albums and in turn hashtagging on Twitter a thing, I've always been on the lookout for embeddable elements when and new platform or service emerges. RSS has a similar transmutable superpower but its prevalence seems to be waning. It this superpositioning-stylie capability of putting content in one place and have it populate elements places elsewhere that I find super useful.
