Leisure vs Living - At war with myself

What does the future look like?

To find it you have to be able to hear yourself ask the question.
I am at war with my self.

Work is the action carried out to earn money. The fuel for living. Not working is the activity that surrounds it. To be at your leisure. I want the work to supplement my not work. Frequently I find that I am consumed by the work and the efforts taken to find work.

A partial solution had been to to make my work something I enjoy and find fulfilment in. The challenge has not been finding work but finding work that results in making a living.

Living is the practical fundamentals. Food, Shelter, Utility, Leisure is a fundamental of living.

Recreation, Vacation, Reflection.

Where does Creation reside in the equation. As the ingredient of balance and worth this is my currency. The main thing I do as work is to support and action creativity. Productivity, the action resulting in delivery. Delivery as a part of creation is for theatre in the eye of the beholder. The consumer is the audience. The audience watch. Traditionally but now it’s more, we talk of participation, immersion, observation...

Presence.

Work life balance for me is a battle. The payment removes the ownership resulting in a diminished connection to the creation. Creative inverted by leisure manifests hobby.

As a creator or supporter of creatives doing what occupied my leisure growing up may have resulted in achieving ambition but my ambition wasn’t not to live.

Understanding mindfulness is going to have a component where I separate living from leisure.

How blurred is your line?

Is doesn’t matter that they overlap. It doesn’t matter if they are indistinguishable. It does matter if your living isn’t making you a living or enabling your leisure.

Falling through consciousness

Without mindless compulsive scrolling through Facebook and Twitter I have an opportunity to be mindful. To be in the present.

Not a great night sleep and woke with a sinus ache in my eyes. It’s the 30th.

I did some project orientation yesterday for my first large project of 2021. I’ve been engaged to provide digital Stagemanagement for Spark Arts annual festival which is blending ground and cloud offers to create a 60/40 programme. My work is to manage 3 online spaces, receive the programmed shows, provide tech host support, show call, facilitate audience access and integrate communications with the ground production teams. Make the digital program run.

Today I’m initiating first contact.

My first task is to produce the festivals launch event. There are 2. One for local business champions with arts leaning philanthropic interests. The festival has overheads and tapping into artistic social responsibility missions to welcome support is essential. The second is to announce to the family audience and schools the festival happens for is happening.

Not all the 2021 branding is in place and the registration links to attend the launch events on January 12th are not yet live but you can sign up to their mailing list.

Social Media not now 2021

On Dec 27th I removed the Facebook and Twitter apps from my mobile devices. I may check them on my desk or laptop through a browser but at least until the end of January I won’t be posting directly to either platform or reading notifications.

For the last few years I have chosen a word to guide and inform my year. Last year (2020) was ‘boundaries’ this year (2021) is ‘mindfulness’.

I know I need to evolve this quality in myself. I know I am at the beginning of understanding how to be more mindful in regards to my life. I know Facebook and Twitter compulsive consumption does not contribute to mindfulness.

I am posting this here and cross posting to Facebook and Twitter to share this with you, reading this.

I will be engaging with Linkedin.

Happy NewYear
