Leisure vs Living - At war with myself
December 31, 2020
What does the future look like?
To find it you have to be able to hear yourself ask the question.
I am at war with my self.
Work is the action carried out to earn money. The fuel for living. Not working is the activity that surrounds it. To be at your leisure. I want the work to supplement my not work. Frequently I find that I am consumed by the work and the efforts taken to find work.
A partial solution had been to to make my work something I enjoy and find fulfilment in. The challenge has not been finding work but finding work that results in making a living.
Living is the practical fundamentals. Food, Shelter, Utility, Leisure is a fundamental of living.
Recreation, Vacation, Reflection.
Where does Creation reside in the equation. As the ingredient of balance and worth this is my currency. The main thing I do as work is to support and action creativity. Productivity, the action resulting in delivery. Delivery as a part of creation is for theatre in the eye of the beholder. The consumer is the audience. The audience watch. Traditionally but now it’s more, we talk of participation, immersion, observation...
Presence.
Work life balance for me is a battle. The payment removes the ownership resulting in a diminished connection to the creation. Creative inverted by leisure manifests hobby.
As a creator or supporter of creatives doing what occupied my leisure growing up may have resulted in achieving ambition but my ambition wasn’t not to live.
Understanding mindfulness is going to have a component where I separate living from leisure.
How blurred is your line?
Is doesn’t matter that they overlap. It doesn’t matter if they are indistinguishable. It does matter if your living isn’t making you a living or enabling your leisure.
