Blue Stocking Society pitch collaboration with ChatGTP

My pitch delivered to the ladies at Blue Stockings Society on Monday 23rd Jan. Following this is the text I collaboratively through prompts generated by ChatGTP.

We came together at Tiger Community Enterprise in Nottingham's Lister Gate. It was about networking to bring a problem or issue we'd like help from fellow entrepreneurs. There was a opportunity to vote on who you think should win the £600 accumulated fund and network with other amazing women. I took SafetyCurtain as I presented my first ever pitch to fundraise. My pitch written with the help of ChatGTP3.

The winner was Fatou from Guinea (photo bottom right) who told us about the experience of pregnant women in her home country and her own sisters death while trying to give birth. Fatou’s friend has just trained as a midwife and is setting up a voluntary birthing hut so that women can access free support and midwifery and hopes to reduce mortality rates in their home town. The £600 will buy sterilising equipment, beds and packs given to the women after birth.

Ladies, I am excited to introduce you all to SafetyCurtain, an international charitable trust that I have been a trustee of since 2019. SafetyCurtain is dedicated to providing small grants, usually less than $1,200 (around £970), to struggling actors outside of the UK. Our small grants help with essential living costs and personal medical bills to assist those living in war zones, extreme poverty or exposed to political conflict.

SafetyCurtain stands side by side with performers in the toughest places in the world.

Those in need complete grant request forms, which are reviewed quarterly. As a small charity, we are able to move swiftly to assist successful applicants. I am asking you to consider a donation of £600 to SafetyCurtain. On this occasion, Blue Stockings will be contributing to the balance of funds available during the next round of applications. We fund around 4 applications a quarter. We also receive requests for ongoing support.

One of our beneficiaries is Thatch Theatre Initiative based in Abuja, Nigeria, where the Boko Haram insurgency has made so many families flee and abandon their lives to seek refuge in other parts of the country. The collective said this in their first application to us "As performers, we see the need to help bring hope to these people."

“TAKE A STAND” is a community theatre project on rape and domestic violence. Thatch Theatre performed most recently in schools but also performs in public spaces. Their initial plan was to tour in different areas of Plateau State, the twelfth-largest of the 36 Nigerian states but there was tension in some areas of the state which posed a security threat and hindered them from continuing with the street tours.

In their most recent correspondence with us they said … “It is our hope that things get much better and the areas are safe again for us to perform.”

Another beneficiary who continues to receive funds is Walid Abo Rashed, a puppeteer and storyteller.

Walid travels long distances across Syria to take his puppet show on the road every week, with the aim of reaching children and helping them forget their troubled situation, to help them learn, to bring smiles and encourage laughter.

Walid receives no income, beyond what the parents can afford to give. SafetyCurtain helps with travel and running costs.

In addition to making a donation, I would like to also encourage you to get involved with the organisation in any way you can. Whether it's volunteering your time to help maintain the website with me, offering to develop the charity's brand identity or sharing information about SafetyCurtain with your own networks, every little bit helps.

When we asked Walid “How do we help?”, he replied, “Give me bread and theatre, and I can bring civilisation”.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of struggling performers at risk around the world. SafetyCurtain is helping keep the flame of culture alive in the darkest times. This £600 will go a long way in helping us provide the essential lifelines that our beneficiaries need to survive and thrive.
